Kalulushi, 26 January, 2026
Kalulushi Constituency is making significant strides in addressing long-standing water challenges, following the installation of solar-powered water reticulation systems by Kalulushi Municipal Council.
One of the major beneficiaries is Kafue Ward, which in 2024 received a solar-powered water reticulation system funded through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF). The initiative is aimed at improving access to safe and clean water while permanently easing water shortages that have affected the district for years.
Speaking in an interview with a Kalulushi Municipal Council Staff, Area Councillor Davies Mulubwa said the project has transformed water availability in the ward and significantly reduced the daily burden faced by residents.
Councillor Mulubwa urged community members to take ownership of the facility and protect it because the government invested substantial resources in the project. He emphasized that safeguarding the infrastructure is a shared responsibility critical for sustainability and continued community development.
Residents have welcomed the development with relief and gratitude. Grace Mayembe, a resident of Kafue Ward, recalled the severe challenges the community previously faced in accessing clean and safe tap water before this project.
“Through the Ward Development Committee, we submitted a request for the installation of a water tank, which was approved and now we no longer have to walk far in search of water” she explained.
Ms. Mayembe said the facility has brought uninterrupted access to running water, greatly improving daily life in the ward. She added that the lack of safe water in the past contributed to frequent outbreaks of water-borne diseases.
“We are humbled by this development. People now have water in abundance, and congestion at water points has greatly reduced” she said.
Another beneficiary, Getrude Mwansa, expressed appreciation to the New Dawn Government for prioritizing community needs through the Constituency Development Fund.
In 2025, the Local Authority installed six solar-powered water reticulation systems, each with five tapping points at a total cost of One million eight hundred thousand kwacha only (K1,800,000.00) and 3 hand pumps at a total cost of One hundred ninety five thousand kwacha only (K195,000.00) across the district using CDF support.
These sustainable water solutions are not only improving access to clean water but also transforming lives in Kalulushi Constituency.
