Our Mandate

Kalulushi Municipal Council (KMC) is a corporate body established under Article 152 of the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act No. 2 of 2016 and Section 6 of the Local Government Act No. 2 of 2019.

As a Local Authority, KMC administers Kalulushi District and performs statutory functions outlined in Section 61 of the Local Government Act. Below are the key responsibilities carried out in service of the public.

Maintain law and order and effective local administration.
Control livestock movement, slaughtering, and sale of meat.
Preserve agricultural produce and conserve natural resources.
Regulate petroleum, gas, fireworks, and hazardous substances.
Provide and maintain clean water supplies and water works.
Maintain public roads, streets, bridges, and watercourses.
Establish sanitation and drainage systems.
Register births, marriages, deaths, and other civic records.
Establish and maintain schools, colleges, and nurseries.
Promote community participation in development.
Provide and maintain public street lighting.
Establish firefighting and fire prevention services.
Regulate food and drink manufacturing and distribution.
Control land use and building development for public safety.
