Legal Services Department

The Legal Services Department is responsible for providing legal advice and ensuring that the interests of the Council are safeguarded.

Roles of the Legal Services Office

  • Represent the Council in legal matters before the Courts of law in order to safeguard the Council’s interests;
  • Prepare litigation documents on litigation cases for the Council in order to safeguard Government resources
  • Provide legal advice to the Council in order to make informed decisions
  • Process land applications in order to facilitate allocation and sustainable development
  • Prosecute criminal offences pursuant to the Local Government Act and other related legislation in order to enhance compliance
  • Maintain the Deeds Register in order to facilitate property ownership
  • Issue licences in order to regulate the conduct of business
  • Prepare and execute contracts in order to enhance contract management.

Units reporting directly to the Office of the Legal Services Department.
