THE DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING & SOCIAL SERVICES

Department of Housing & Social Services

The Department shall be responsible for the provision of community development
services and social protection programmes. The Department shall also be responsible
for the management of Council properties and housing units, as well as administration
of bus stations and market facilities. It shall also be responsible for provision of library
services, management of Archives, cultural matters, sports and recreation activities
and skills development.

Roles of the Housing & Social Services Department

  • Conduct registration of community voluntary organisations; b) Coordinate and implement social protection programmes
  • Manage Council properties and housing units, and Coordinate the upgrading of unplanned settlements in the District
  • Manage bus stations and markets in order to facilitate smooth operations and enhance revenue collection; f) Provide library information services
  • Develop and rehabilitate culture infrastructure and facilities in the District
  • Develop cultural and creative industries in order to promote cultural goods and services in the District.
  • Maintain inventory of all cultural practices, activities, assets, tools and equipment in the District
  • Facilitate the mobilisation of communities in the participation and promotion of cultural activities.
  • Manage Archives in order to preserve historical events, Manage sports and recreational activities and Coordinate skills development.

Units reporting directly to the HOUSING & SOCIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT.
