THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT

The Planning Department

The Department shall be responsible for development control and regulation of land
use, provision of land survey services and promotion of research and development.
The Department shall also be responsible for facilitating the formulation and
implementation of policies and coordination of cross-cutting issues and climate change
adaptation.

Roles of the Planning Department

  • Facilitate the development and implementation of policies
  • Conduct spatial planning in order to facilitate development and control of property
  • Develop and maintain the Valuation Roll on Council properties and land developments
  • Conduct valuation of properties in order to determine values for rentals/lease agreements
  • Conduct land surveys for generation of maps, and Provide technical support on environmental impact on planned developmental projects
  • Grant planning permission
  • Conduct inspections on infrastructure developments in order to ensure adherence to approved plans and mitigate illegal constructions

Units reporting directly to the planning department.
