THE HEALTH SERVICES DEPARTMENT

The Health Services Department

The Department shall be responsible for the provision of preventive and curative
health services through general nursing care and clinical care and provision of medical
equipment, and pharmaceutical services. The Department shall also be responsible
for implementing programmes and projects aimed at preventing, controlling and
eliminating diseases in order to promote health and prolong life.

Roles of the Health Services Department

  • Provide clinical care services
  • Provide nursing care and pharmaceutical services;
  • Control of communicable diseases and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs)
  • Provide counselling and testing services
  • Control and elimination of malaria
  • Provide child health programmes & Provide vaccination services
  • Ensure availability of medical equipment in health facilities; i) Provide environmental health services
  • Provide maternal health services; k) Provide family planning, counselling and dispensing of family planning commodities
  • Provide nutrition services; m) Conduct health education programmes; n) Conduct disease surveillance programmes; and o) Manage ambulance services.
